Waiting waiting waiting
Just for the gunfire
Just to show what you practiced for months
Just for one race
Practice all year
Practice like dogs before their long winter run
But instead of snow slashing at their eyes
We have the sun beating on our backs
Like a fifty pound weight looming over our shoulders
The finish line calls us, we must answer
The finish line mocks us, we must go faster
Family members calling your name and cheering you on
Ready to pour water on your head as soon as you're done
Just to see their faces excited with joy
Takes off the weight and silences the calls
Just to see their faces excited with joy makes it all worth it
For that one moment is my purpose

Congratulations to our own Frank Shotwell (2006 MHS Grad)
Frank was named as Captain of the University of Michigan Track Team for 2009!
Frank is only a junior...but he has already broken Michigan School Records.
Indoor:
2008 Big Ten Champion (Heptathlon) ...first time in school history...with record 5,525 points
(High Jump, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, 60HH, 60m Dash, 1,000m Run)
Outdoor:
2008 Big Ten Champion (Decathlon)....first time in school history...record 7,362 points
(High Jump, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, 110M HH. 100m Dash, 400m dash, 1,500m Run)
Frank, we couldn't be more proud of you, and what you have accomplished.
You have shown our younger athletes that dedication and daily hard work can, indeed, show results. We coaches don't know of one single day when you did not give 100% and....there was never a time when you didn't lead by example, or take time to help the younger athletes.
You are a true Champion !

Ruben Belen (Kent State Freshman) placed 5th in the Heptathlon at the first meet of his college career (15 teams). His events were:
High Jump, Long Jum, Pole Vault, Shot Put, 60m High Hurdles, 60m Dash, and 1000m Run

4th Place Finish...another school record...and a time that was in the the top ten in the nation
110m High Hurdles: Ruben Belen (12)...caught the heal of his shoe on a hurdle and ran his race with his shoe half off
800m Run: Sam Maynard (12)...3rd Place...broke a school record that was set in 1969!!.......1:52.24!!!
3200m Run: Donny Roys (11)...was tripped in lap 5...fell down ...had runners jumping over him...got up and went after the pack...(shoe torn...foot cut) still finished with a time of 9:29...that was guts! ...that was FIRE!!
High Jump: Ruben Belen (12)...officials made him change his spikes at the start of the event...barely made the time deadline...hurried his jumps and went out at 6'2
4x400m Relay: John Schweinfurth (12)
Spencer Shewbridge (11)
Dan Sloat (12)

These guys made a valiant effort...ran a time of 3:22, but didn't make the finals.

Frank was also the BIG TEN CHAMPION in the Heptathlon (indoors). ...He is a 2006 Medina Graduate....and only a Sophomore at The University of Michigan. He has broken Michigan School Records. He is ranked 18th in the Nation.
While at Medina, Frank was a good freshman athlete who just kept working harder and harder each year, and his work made him better and better!
Let this inspire all of our athletes to reach higher each day.
